For more than a decade, I have worked with marketing and editorial staffers at Springer Business+Science Media on descriptive and promotional copy for books in the broad fields of science, technology, medicine, business and transportation. This global publishing giant maintains offices in 27 countries, and has a catalog of more than 200,000 titles. Among its authors and contributors are some 200 Nobel Laureates. in 2014, Springer published some 9,000 new books. My promotional writing is used in catalogs, sales sheets, web sites and social media, and appears in the descriptions of books at Springer.com, and on many retail sites such as Amazon and Powell's Books. I'm proud that many descriptive passages appear on the covers and dust jackets of the books themselves.
Another branch of my freelance work with Springer is marketing copy for scholarly journals. I first began working on journals with assignments for Kluwer Academic Publishers in 2001, staying on when the catalog was acquired by Springer. Springer publishes more than 2,400 journals, and has led the way in the development of Open Access journals, with more than 500 titles. I have created hundreds of promotional copy sets for journals, each consisting of descriptive passages in various lengths, keyword-rich headlines and unique selling points. The content is used on the Springer web site, in promotional emails and other applications.
